About us

Welcome to Gaëlle and Thierry, the owners of Lodge op de Berg, where hospitality has been paramount since 2014. Gaëlle shines as the versatile facilitator and hub of our holiday accommodation, while Thierry operates as a landscape architect and driving force behind the project, with a constant focus on detail and a long-term vision.

Our passion for creating unique places to stay in nature is at the heart of our project. Our business is not simply about renting out a place to stay; we offer our guests a chance to experience the splendour of nature, while actively contributing to its conservation and development. Our project is flourishing, as year after year we continue to build our piece of landscape of over 3ha and experiment with special outdoor experiences, such as spending a summer night under the stars in a bed. No idea is too crazy!

Our mission is to build a bridge between people and nature, with tourism acting as an engine for both nature conservation and development. We are committed to finding harmony between the needs of nature at our location and the desires of our travellers. We offer our guests an intimate, eco-friendly experience that stimulates the senses and leaves a special ‘holiday feeling’.

Outdoor experience
Besides special accommodation, we also offer special outdoor experiences on the estate.
Discover them below.

Discover nature with our dogs
Let yourself be taken in tow by the three swimming-loving dogs of the house and explore nature with them. They love swimming and playing with children.
Chilling in the hot tub
Relaxing in a steaming hot tub with friends or family is a unique experience. Simultaneously enjoying the surrounding nature and the sound of the crackling fire in the wood-burning stove. The hot tub offers space for up to four people and is very comfortable thanks to its ergonomic bottom. The hot tub can be booked extra for €100 per day session. A day session starts from 17h or later. Booking a hot tub session is subject to availability.
Spot the wild
Things get really exciting when you set up the wildlife camera with ranger Thibault to watch the wildlife's nocturnal excursions. Wild boar, deer, foxes, you might even spot a wolf!
Sleeping under the stars
Those who would like to sleep under the bare sky for once, but prefer to do so in a comfortable bed with a beautiful view, can book a night under the stars. The room has no ceiling and no walls. The beautiful location in nature is actually part of the room. Both an outdoor wooden toilet and bathroom are provided for true immersion in nature! Next summer, only a limited number of overnight stays will be organised.
Small-scale outdoor-events in nature
In recent years, our outdoor location has been rented several times for small-scale outdoor events, sometimes for a wedding, sometimes for b2b events such as Fjällraven, Mammut, AS Adventure, Levis, among others. Each time small-scale in character and in all exclusivity and always in balance with the loading capacity of the location itself.

New edible nature
Over the next few years, Lodge op de Berg will continue to be developed into a country retreat that provides space for increased biodiversity, local food production and an unforgettable outdoor experience. We will achieve this by transforming our 3-hectare piece of land into an ecosystem where healthy soil is the foundation and biodiversity is essential. In the coming years, we will plant hundreds of species of perennial trees and shrubs in different systems, such as agroforestry and strip cultivation. Agroforestry, also known as food forest, is an innovative form of agriculture that uses perennials without the need for ploughing, seeding or chemical treatments. This contrasts with conventional farming methods that rely on annual crops, fertilisers and chemicals. A food forest not only provides food, but also stores significant amounts of CO2 and contributes to the creation of new natural areas. The feasibility of this project is currently being thoroughly investigated.
